WestJEM: EHR-based surveillance for community transmitted COVID-19 in the ED

Published

A new publication in the Western Journal of Emergency Medicine on surveillance for COVID-19 before testing was widely available has recently released online.

A team of UW Emergency Medicine faculty and staff, in conjunction with the UW Department of Operations and Information Management, developed a surveillance tool using readily available ED operations data extracted from electronic health records to optimize capture of acute respiratory infection (ARI)-related cases. Their findings support capacity for earlier detection and response to any potential surges in coronavirus cases in the future.
