Madtown Sono ultrasound team seeks big win at SAEM's annual Sonogames competition

It's an annual tradition for ultrasound faculty at the BerbeeWalsh Department of Emergency Medicine to lead 2-3 emergency medicine residents in a test of ultrasound mastery at the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine's Annual Meeting.

SonoGames® is a national ultrasound competition in which residents demonstrate their skills and knowledge of point-of-care ultrasound in an exciting and educational format. Over 300 emergency medicine residents battle it out in front of hundreds of spectators to prove they have mastered the skills to become SonoChamps and bring home the SonoCup.

The 2021 team is captained by EM residents and incoming 2021-2022 ultrasound fellows Kevin McConkey, MD and Justin Purnell, MD and supervised by ultrasound faculty Hani Kuttab, MD. After finishing Round 1 in third place, the team overtook the Harvard University EM team to move into second place ahead of the final round, which will take place Friday, May 14.

The team combined education and comedy to create two exceptional video entries to the competition, which are available to watch at the links below:

Entry to Round 1: Ocular Ultrasound

Entry to Round 2: Sono Story Time
