Project: "The Effect of the Care Transitions Intervention on ED Revisits Among Socially Disconnected Older Adults"

Clara Kuranz has lived in Wisconsin most of her life, growing up in Milwaukee, WI, and later moving to Madison for her undergraduate and medical school career. In her time as an undergraduate at UW, she enjoyed football games, biking the Monona lake loop, and spending time with friends whether at a tailgate or the library. She majored in biology with a pre-med path, received her certificate in health and the humanities, and spent her senior year focused on African Literature and Cultural Studies. She has enjoyed her first year at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health and is looking forward to continuing her exploration of interests in medicine, specifically geriatrics, for another three. This summer, Clara is partaking in the Shapiro Research Program under the mentorship of Dr. Manish Shah. Her research is focused on examining the relationship between social connectedness, operationalized through living situations and social isolation, and the Care Transitions Intervention in an ED-to-home context for individuals equal or above the age of 60.
